Ophthorobotics Completes Cadaver Eye Study

In May 2026, our robotic intravitreal injection platform successfully completed a series of tests on ex vivo human cadaveric eyes. The robot performed every injection with precise, reproducible accuracy — concrete validation of the procedure's safety and reproducibility.

Intravitreal injection (IVI) is today the cornerstone of treatment for AMD and other age-related retinal diseases. Anti-VEGF therapies have transformed visual outcomes for millions of patients, but at the cost of recurring, lifelong re-injections. As a result, nearly 80 million IVIs are performed worldwide every year, making it the single most frequent procedure in retinal care.

Yet the procedure remains manual, repetitive, and highly dependent on the individual surgeon. With demand growing 6–8% per year and a shrinking ophthalmology workforce, the current model is reaching its structural limits.

Ophthorobotics' mission is to make IVI simpler, safer, and more accessible. By automating the procedure — through AI-guided injection, sub-millimeter eye tracking, and integrated sterile airflow — our platform turns a capacity-limited surgical act into a standardized, scalable office-based procedure. The result: reduced variability, controlled infection risk, and the ability for a single clinician to oversee multiple injection rooms.
